Scenario
You are preparing an executive project report for the Energy Data Platform initiative. You will use Copilot in Word to create a draft report from a source document, improve part of the writing, convert recommendations to a table, and summarize the final report.
Exercise 1 - Create a new report from a source document
- Open a new Word document from your browser.
- Select the on-canvas Copilot drafting experience at the top of the blank document.
- Add the project charter file from bp copilot / sample data as source content.
- Submit the following prompt.
Create an executive project report using the linked project charter as the source.
Include these sections:
- Executive Summary
- Background
- Current Challenges
- Proposed Solution
- Scope and Deliverables
- Risks and Issues
- Recommendations
- Next Steps
Use professional language suitable for BP Malaysia leadership training.
- Review the generated draft.
- Select Keep it if the content is suitable.
- Save the file as Lab02_Energy_Data_Platform_Report.docx.
Exercise 2 - Rewrite the risks section
- Highlight the Risks and Issues section.
- Select Edit with Copilot from the floating toolbar.
- Use the following prompt to improve the text.
Rewrite this section for a senior management audience.
Make each risk specific.
Explain why each risk matters.
Include mitigation actions where available.
Keep the tone clear, professional, and concise.
Exercise 3 - Convert recommendations into a table
- Place your cursor below the Recommendations section.
- Open Copilot in Word.
- Submit the following prompt.
Convert the recommendations into a table.
Use these columns:
- Recommendation
- Expected benefit
- Owner or accountable role
- Priority
- Decision required
Exercise 4 - Summarize the final document
- Open the Copilot pane from the Home tab.
- Submit the following prompt.
- Add the summary to the end of the document if the output is useful.
Summarize this report for a leader who has only two minutes to read it.
Highlight:
- Top three points
- Key risks
- Decisions required
- Immediate next actions
